Betty Ruth Monks, 71, a resident of San Marcos, passed away Feb. 6, 2013. She was born Dec. 17, 1941, in Charleston County, S.C. to Clayton Godford and Mary (Brinson) Ray.
Betty's kind and gentle spirit will be remembered by all who knew her. She was a hard worker and helped her husband run a very successful business. Even with the many hours she spent working in the business she always found time for her family. Her family was very dear to her and she was quick to show her love to them.
Recently she was a resident at Stonebrook Senior Community in San Marcos where she touched many lives and was a true friend to her fellow residents.
Betty is preceded in death by her parents and by her husband David Scott Monks Sr. She is survived by her sons Bill Kirk and his wife Bernice of Louisiana, David Scott Monks Jr. and his partner Todd Joseph Burke of California; her daughter Mary Bethany Campbell; her grandchildren Tanya Lynn Cales and her husband T.C., Michelle Campbell, Rachel-Sarah Allgood and her husband Timothy and Billy-Stan Kirk. Betty is also survived by her great-grandchildren Hunter Cales, Lexie Cales, Julian Sturgill and Jayden Sturgill and by her brother Tony Ray and her sister Patricia Hess.
A memorial service will be today at 6 p.m. at the Stonebrook Senior Community in San Marcos.
The family wishes to express their appreciation to her niece and nephew Donna and Bruce Ormand and their family, and to her niece and nephew Cathy and Joe Adams for their assistance and constant vigil over Betty in her later years. A special thank-you also to Betty's best friend Maria Gonzales for always being there for her. A true friend.
