He will be accompanied by his wife, Trisha Yearwood, for the stop on his hotly anticipated world tour. Brooks has the distinction as the number one-selling solo artist in United States history.

Leaping out of retirement for his well-publicized and hotly anticipated world tour, celebrated country music artist Garth Brooks next weekend will make his first appearance in San Antonio in 18 years. 

Music to die-hard fans’ ears, the electrifying shows with Brooks accompanied by his wife, Trisha Yearwood, are planned for Friday, July 22 at 7 p.m., Saturday, July 23 at 7 p.m. and 10:30 p.m. and Sunday, July 24 at 7:30 p.m. in the River City’s AT&T Center, located at 1 AT&T Center Parkway.

San Marcos author Victoria Bynum is discussing her book, “The Free State of Jones,” tonight from 7 to 9 p.m. at Dahlia Woods Gallery, located at 232 North LBJ Drive. She will also sign copies of the books for those in attendance. Bynum is a former Distinguished Professor Emeritus of History at Texas State University. Her book is the basis for the movie adaptation of the same title.

 

‘The Free State of Jones’ book talk, signing tonight

Dahlia Woods Gallery & Bad Boy Books, located at 232 North LBJ Drive, is presenting an evening with local author Victoria Bynum discussing her book, “The Free State of Jones.” The book talk and signing will occur tonight from 7 to 9 p.m. at Dahlia Woods Gallery.

Bynum’s “The Free State of Jones” is the basis for the current Hollywood blockbuster movie adaptation of the same title, starring Michael McConaughey, Gugu Mbath-Raw and Keri Russell, now playing in theaters nationally.

Midnight River Choir includes Eric Middleton, lead vocalist and guitarist, Justin Nelson, guitarist and harmony vocalist, Bob Driver III, bass player and harmony vocalist, and Mitchell Pyeatt, drummer and harmony vocalist. They are performing tonight at 7:30 p.m. in the San Marcos Plaza Park as part of the Summer in the Park Concert Series.

In the last decade, prominent band Midnight River Choir has steadily grasped success and garnered a sterling reputation.

Tireless in touring, Midnight River Choir routinely succumbs to bouts of wanderlust they quench by performing in small, medium and big venues dotting the nation’s landscape.

No strangers to the Texas music scene, they are famous for performing soothing, meaningful music, and have sealed their unique identity in the music realm.

Surrounded by believers, Jesus of Nazareth, portrayed by Daniel Cline, and Simon the Zealot, portrayed by Nick Gollihugh converse during “Jesus Christ Superstar,” presented by The Wimberley Players. The production continues through July 31, with performances on Fridays and Saturdays at 7:30 p.m. and a matinee show on Sundays at 2:30 p.m. at The Wimberley Playhouse, located at 450 Old Kyle Road.

As the lights dimmed, the band boldly played the overture and the golden silhouette of a cross shined through the sheer curtains, fans of Jesus Christ Superstar eagerly waited for the explosive rock opera by The Wimberley Players to begin.

The mesmerizing music was instrumental in setting the tone and taking attendees on a gripping, thrilling, angst-filled ride through the life and times of Jesus of Nazareth.

While some students might be resting on their laurels this summer after a hectic school year of studying, homework and exams, the opposite is true for San Marcos wunderkind Dakota Fernandez.

Sure, Fernandez has his share of favorite pastimes including dancing, singing, drawing and tennis – he’s on the varsity tennis team at San Marcos High School. 

What distinguishes him from his peers is that he is an accomplished actor devoted to pursuing his dreams.
