Drive-in theater coming to New Braunfels
From Staff Reports
Twelve years ago, Ryan Smith experienced his first drive-in movie at Sky-Vue Drive-In Theatre in Lamesa, which his grandfather started in 1948. He said as a child he always romanticized the stories he was told of this theatre.
“After having such a cool experience, I thought this has to be shared with people in our generation, as these theatres are rapidly vanishing,” said Smith. “Being outside, the dining experience, having your privacy or making it a block party, this experience is customizable. It is what you want to make of it.”
Smith was so inspired he created Stars-and-Stripes Drive-In, which his younger sisters built in Lubbock. Although the theatre is a success in Lubbock, Smith wanted to create another drive-in in Central Texas.
