High School Football: Rattlers downed by Georgetown
With the San Marcos Rattlers striking first, things looked good early in Friday's contest with Georgetown, Class 4A's No. 12 team in the state.
The Eagles, however, made the proper adjustments on defense and its offense began to soar to score 34 straight points to hand the Rattlers their first loss of the season 34-19.
San Marcos (2-1) took a 6-0 lead after an 11-yard touchdown pass from Tucker Smith to Brandon Chapman with 26 seconds left in the first quarter.
Georgetown (3-0) scored 17 points in the second quarter to take a 17-6 halftime lead.
As is the characteristic of any SMHS team, the Rattlers fought back, forcing the Eagles to keep their starters in on defense.
Using two late turnovers, the Rattlers answered with 13 straight points to cut it close. San Marcos ran out of time, however, to lose its first game of 2013 with a 34-19 final.
