John Rodney Slack of San Marcos, dearly loved and cherished father, son and brother, passed away on Oct. 6, 2013, at the age of 54. He was born Feb. 11, 1959, to William and Theresa (Pitti) Slack, in Brooklyn, New York.
A United States Navy veteran, John was an aircraft mechanic. He loved working on airplanes, hunting, skiing and being involved in the Boy Scouts of America.
His father William and his son Johnny Slack, Jr. preceded him in death. He is survived by his wife Sibylle Slack; son Justin Slack; daughter Alyssa Slack; mother Theresa Slack; three brothers, William D. Slack, Jr., Robert W. Slack and Richard B. Slack; and sister Elizabeth Raynor. He is also survived by numerous nieces, nephews, cousins and a host of friends.
Family will receive friends at Pennington Funeral Home, from 5 to 8 p.m. today. A Celebration of Life Service will be held at 11 a.m. Thursday, Oct. 10, at the First Presbyterian Church, 410 W. Hutchison St., in San Marcos, with the Revs. Joshua and Amy Sutherlun officiating. A Graveside Service will follow later at 2:30 p.m., on Thursday at Fort Sam Houston National Cemetery in San Antonio.
