The San Marcos High School Fashion Design Class and the Fashion Marketing Class partnered to create a Fashion Show this spring that showcased the talent and skill of the high school students.
Each year the Fashion Marketing Class hosts a show that features styles from local boutiques and some corporate retailers. Fashion Marketing students took on the professional roles and worked with Bealls, KnD Resale Boutique, Maurices, Strut Boutique, Aeropostale, San Marvelous Co. and the Texas State Business Fraternity Epsilon Nu Tau (ENT).
Student Director Monet Moreau was in charge of the exciting event.
This year we decided to add another element to our show, Moreau said. We showcased the clothing that SMHS students designed and created in Ms. (Josie) Bazes Fashion Design Class.
The Fashion Marketing class also collaborated with SMHS drama teacher Jack Moores set design team, who created the fashion show runway set.
We were so lucky to have Mr. Moores class build the set for us, SMHS marketing teacher and event sponsor Irma Carr said. We provided the financial resources and they created our vision.
The Drama Department has paid internship students who work with special performances at the high schools Performing Arts Center. Moore trains his students to become stage managers, lights and sound techs and more. The Culinary Arts class contributed to the event, as did the SMHS Orchestra directed by Christopher Hanson. Johanna Haley served as modeling instructor.
Our community needs to know how many of our students are learning skills used in the real world, Carr said. We are creating students who graduate with a competitive edge.
