The race is on to finish the new SMCISD football stadium and Student Activity Center.
The new stadium will hold 5,000 home spectators and have 3,000 visiting seats. The home side will have 42 rows. Construction crews have been working hard to finish up both the home and away grandstands and have nearly completed their work.
Tickets are already on sale for all home games, including San Marcos’ home opener versus Seguin on Sept. 19. The game against the Matadors will serve as the Rattlers’ first tilt in their new digs — District 27-5A.
San Marcos also has home games against San Antonio Alamo Heights (Oct. 3), Kerrville-Tivy (Oct. 17) and Boerne-Champion (Oct. 31).
Crews will have to install the field turf for the stadium and work on the locker rooms, press box and concession stands.
Construction on the new student activity center is also moving along. The facility will feature a 60-yard indoor practice field, gyms, weight rooms, lockers and offices. Rattler athletes will now be able to practice inside in the case of inclement weather.
