The Caldwell County Law Enforcement Explorer Post 8200 will celebrate its seventh year next month.
The post was chartered in November 2001 when Greg Covington, district executive with the Boy Scouts of America, visited with Sheriff Daniel Law and Sgt. Paul Cowan to explain the youth program.
It proved to be “an excellent opportunity to have law enforcement officers working with young adults in the community,” Cowan said. “Officers could help young adults in learning ethical decisions, developing leadership skills, community service learning, and career possibilities.”
Youth from all over the county have participated, including Gary Job Corps. The post has participated in local events including parades in Lockhart and Luling, Martindale’s annual Fun Fest and Lockhart’s Helmets for Kids Bicycle Rode.
The Caldwell County Law Enforcement Explorer Post 8200 continues to provide youths between the ages of 14 and 21 and opportunity to explore a career in law enforcement and an opportunity to learn how to be a future leader of Caldwell County.
The Post meets on the second and fourth Tuesdays of each month at the Sheriff's Office, 1204 Reed Drive, Lockhart. Contact Cowan at 398-6777, ext. 225 for additional information.
