Keeping the river clean

San Marcos — Volunteers scoured the San Marcos River through town on Saturday morning as canoe teams picked up trash along the lower stretches of the 90-mile waterway. This year’s effort also paid special attention to problem spots along tributaries leading into the river. Sponsors also provided coffee and breakfast tacos before the cleanup and a barbecue dinner at Shady Grove Campground Saturday evening. Out of town volunteers were also invited to camp free at Shady Grove or the San Marcos River Retreat.
