Financial awareness: Doctor Debt to rescue

San Marcos — Texas State University student and member of the Texas State Students in Free Enterprise (SIFE) team, Alexandra Ortiz, has been teaching financial awareness and responsibility in various residential halls at the university.

The project, in the form of a presentation called Doctor Debt, was created by the SIFE program.

It covers what a FICO score is, factors that affect it, ways to improve it and the three major credit reporting agencies.

The main concepts Doctor Debt teaches are how to improve personal finances, credit tips and personal discipline in dealing with finances.

This program is not only limited to college residential halls. Individuals in the San Marcos community interested in a presentation may contact Vicki West and the Texas State University SIFE team.

SIFE is a global, non-profit organization which offers students the opportunity to develop leadership, teamwork and communication skills.

Texas State SIFE has placed within the Top 20 at national competitions since 1997.
