Eighth grade students of Miller Middle School sat in silence recently as they listened to concentration camp survivor Rose Williams tell of her imprisonment in Auschwitz and Bergen-Belsen in Nazi-controlled Germany during World War II. Williams left two lessons with the Miller eighth-graders. One was to remember what had happened during the Holocaust so that history would not be repeated. The second lesson was Williams urging students “to not be bystanders,” but rather to be “rescuers for those in need.” Following the lecture, Williams attended a luncheon in her honor that was sponsored by the 8th grade Language Arts teachers at Miller. Left to right, are Miller staff Gretchen Norton, Caprica Neal, Jan Moody, Claire Hagan, Holocaust survivor Rose Williams, Grace Mueller and Jennifer Heath.
