4 found shot to death in Texas home

Cleveland — A check on a family's well-being at a house in rural southeast Texas led deputies to four bodies.

San Jacinto County Sheriff James Walters said Monday it appeared that a man fatally shot his girlfriend, her 4-year-old daughter and his adopted mother before killing himself.

Walters says that the gunman "might have been off his medication." He declined to elaborate.

Capt. Carl Jones says the gunman, 42-year-old Oliver Bills Jr., lived at the home with his girlfriend and her child. Names of those two victims were not immediately released.

Jones said the other victim, 71-year-old Gloria Bills, had a home nearby.

Deputies received a call Saturday night about a welfare check and verbal disturbance. Jones declined to say who made the call.

The house is about 55 miles north of Houston.
