High School Football: Rattlers grind through spring game at Bobcat Stadium

Early in Thursday’s Purple and White Spring Game, Tucker Smith unloaded a beautiful ball to David Hamilton. It hit Hamilton in stride and it went for a 70-yard touchdown.

Just a few possessions later, Zack Sterling led Elias Villalobos across the middle to a substantial gain. Sterling put the ball where it needed to be and Villalobos did the rest.

When Smith made a play, Sterling quickly followed with one of his own.

San Marcos CISD, trustees honor 12 recent retirees

San Marcos CISD recently honored the 2013 retirees at a reception held at Miller Middle School. Shortly thereafter, each of the twenty-one retirees was recognized by the Board of Trustees for their outstanding contributions on behalf of SMCISD school children.
Together, the retirees had a total of 566 years of dedicated service.
Carl Aiken taught for 42 years, most — if not al l— of that teaching math at Goodnight Middle School. He had a knack for connecting with kids, and Goodnight misses him already.

Plenty going on this weekend

Two baseball tournaments and a state championship soccer tournament are in San Marcos this weekend bringing an estimated 3,800 players and family members into the city.

Wacky Wednesday

Students of the San Marcos CISD Child Development Center enjoyed doing Wacky Wednesday activities on May 22. The young readers of the popular book by Dr. Seuss discovered what’s wrong on each page, thereby shaping their ability to observe, as well as developing a love for reading.

SMHS’ Von Miller captures UIL state debate championship

San Marcos High School junior Devon Von Miller won the 2013 UIL State Championship in Lincoln-Douglas Debate Wednesday at the University of Texas at Austin.

Today is national Heat Awareness Day

On the surface — which by the way is hot to the touch — it wouldn’t appear local residents would need to observe Heat Awareness Day.

San Marcos fastest growing city in U.S.

San Marcos has a new national distinction.
The U.S. Census Bureau released a report Thursday naming San Marcos as the fastest growing city with a population of 50,000 or more in the United States during 2012.

On Thursday the Price Center hosted a luncheon to honor three Living Legends: Ron Scott, Dianne Wassenich and Mabel Hall.
