Stop thrashing around in the political weeds

America's got some serious problems to solve.
Our Obama Economy is still stuck in a ditch by the side of the road.
Our campaigner in chief is running around the country pushing for higher taxes and no spending cuts and crying, "The federal sky will fall!" if Congress doesn't stop the puny 10 percent sequester from happening.
In Washington the incompetents and cowards in Congress can't get our fiscal house in order, and they're too stupid or self-serving to realize they are wrecking the greatest economic machine humans have ever created.

Here’s the ‘scoop’

FORT STOCKTON, Texas — The journalistic cliche is that someone comes running into a newsroom, shouting: "I've got a story that'll bust this town wide open!" So stop the presses; re-do the front page. But in these days of the Internet, you don't stop the presses. You merely write it ASAP and hit the "publish" button.

City building permits rebound

A good sign the economy may be rebounding in San Marcos came with the issuance of $24,102,228 in permits by the city during January, a nearly six-fold increase over December’s $4,430,532 in permits. The total number of permits issued in January was 150 compared to 109 in December.

The San Marcos Convention and Visitor Bureau unveiled a new website and campaign aimed specifically at informing visitors about the new park and river rules that went into effect Jan. 1.

‘Road rage’ incident lands a local man behind bars

A 41-year-old San Marcos man remained in jail Wednesday after his arrest Tuesday on two counts of aggravated assault with a deadly weapon.

Miller band honors

Thirteen members of the San Marcos CISD Miller Middle School Band have been named to the 2012-2013 Comal Honor Band through a challenging solo competition with other middle school band students from the Comal ISD. This is the first year that students from San Marcos CISD have been invited to participate in the competition. Shane Rowe was named First Chair in Tuba.

Burn ban is back again

On the heels of a Red Flag Warning day when wind gusts approached 50 miles per hour and firefighters battled more than a dozen wildfires, it was a given that Hays County Commissioners would reinstate a ban on outdoor burning — and they did.
