Hill Country Christian puts on a show

Seniors at Hill Country Christian School performed an abridged version of “The Importance of Being Ernest” Wednesday. The show was for the whole school.

Getting the band back together: San Marcos band to perform reunion show at Cheatham Street tomorrow

In the late 70’s there were two country music bands who’s stomping grounds were in the San Marcos area. One of those bands was Ace in the Hole, George Strait’s original group. The other, Joe Bob’s Bar and Grill Band, will play a reunion show at Cheatham Street tomorrow night at 9 p.m.
“Back then, if Ace in the Hole played on Wednesday at Cheatham Street, we were there on Thursday,” bass player Bill Whitbeck said.

Rosalinda Hernandez

Surrounded by her family and loved ones, Rosalinda Hernandez passed peacefully. She was released from her earthly bonds, and escorted by the angels of our Heavenly Father on May 22, 2013 at the age of 65.

Proud parent graduates

San Marcos CISD teen parent Adrianna Torres recently earned her graduation by mastering the TAKS test. She is one of the follow-up students who District staff have coached and supported in the preparation for re-taking the TAKS test. As a reward for graduation, students in the Teenage Pregnant & Parenting Program get to take home the large professional-grade photo of their child that hangs in the Child Development Center’s Family Life Center.

CTMC Women’s Council gives back to the community

The Central Texas Medical Center (CTMC) Women’s Council once again awarded impact grants to local non-profits that make a difference in the lives of women and children in Hays County. This year, six organizations received a portion of the available $16,000 in grant funding at the Council’s third annual Grants Award Ceremony on May 15.

SMA awards faculty and staff members

San Marcos Academy presented awards to two faculty members and two staff members at the school's annual Commencement May 12.
History and government instructor Gwen Hanna and physics/geometry instructor Belle Shirley-Howell both received the B.A. Copass, Sr., Outstanding Teacher Award, presented annually to one or more full-time faculty members for teaching excellence. Other criteria for the honor are a progressive and professional attitude, excellent student-teacher rapport, and school and community service.

Lions Club: Stewards of the San Marcos River

If there’s a single image associated with the 72-degree San Marcos River as it flows through the city, it’s the tube with the logo of the San Marcos Lions Club.
