National Honor Society induction

Miller Middle School National Junior Honor Society members hosted their
annual Induction Ceremony recently. Natalie Flores, NJHS president, was the
master of ceremonies with Mariel Mayhew (vice president), Allison Yager (secretary),
and Christian Herrera (historian) assisting in the induction. Savannah
Sanchez and Zach Lesikar, members who had the most service hours, also
had roles to play in the ceremony.

CTMC accepting applications for HeartStrong camps

Central Texas Medical Center Hospice Care is accepting applications for Camp HeartSong and Camp Heart- Song, Too!
Camp HeartSong and Camp Heart-Song, Too! are both summer bereavement camps sponsored by CTMC Hospice Care in San Marcos. These camps have been created to meet the special needs of children and adolescents who have experienced the death
of a family member or significant person in their lives.
The primary goal for both camps is to provide a stress-free and fun experience
where kids can “just be kids."

Kelley sentenced for Texas State bomb threat

BRYAN (AP) — A Bryan man charged with making bomb threats to Texas A&M has been sentenced for similar threats made against Texas State University.
Dereon Kelley, 22, on Wednesday was handed a sentence of 33 months in federal
prison for the October threats against Texas State.
U.S. District Judge Lynn Hughes, who presided over the trial, additionally ordered Kelley to pay a $300 fine and $15,000 in restitution and serve a
three-year term of supervision upon his release.
Approximately $12,000 of the restitution will be paid to Texas State University

Project Graduation seeks your help

Project Graduation is in need of community assistance. The all night, alcohol-free and drug-free graduation celebration event, a long-standing tradition for San Marcos High School graduating seniors hosted by parents,
local businesses, organizations and community volunteers, provides a safe environment for SMHS graduating high school seniors and their friends on graduation night.
Many fundraisers are scheduled to support Project Graduation, including
a BBQ plate sale scheduled for Saturday, May 11 at Goodnight Middle School

SMHS senior Zamora chosen for 2013 Smithsonian Program

San Marcos High School senior Alana Zamora is one of up to 24 students chosen nationwide to participate in the Smithsonian’s Latino Center’s 2013 Young Ambassadors Program.
This includes an all-expense paid one-week training seminar in Washington,
D.C. from June 23-29, 2013. Upon completion of the one-week seminar and a four-week internship, the Center will provide Zamora a $2,000 program stipend.

museums, assist with the development of education content for families or

Wimberley man injured in Thursday accident

WIMBERLEY — Joel Trevino, 30, of Wimberley, was traveling west bound on Ranch Road 12 on Thursday toward Wimberley. At 11:59 a.m. just past the San Marcos Baptist Academy, his Honda Civic drifted to the right off the road. After crashing into a tree, the car flipped on its roof.

SMPD seeking help on case

The San Marcos Police Department is looking to the public for help with an aggravated assault that happened in late April.
Between 3:45 a.m. and 4:30 a.m. on Saturday April 20, a Hispanic male described as 6 feet tall, weighing about 210 with a muscular build, stabbed the victim in
the area of Sessoms Drive and Aquarena Springs Drive during an altercation. After leaving the scene, the suspect returned as the victim lay on the sidewalk.
Driving a 60s or 70s beige “muscle car,” the suspect drove up on the sidewalk, ran over the victim causing serious injuries and left the scene.
