Grande teams up with Scheib Center patients

Scheib Center group home resident, Maria Munoz, gives Grande Communications a “thumbs-up” for including her in the new Community Ticket Program sponsored by Grande Communications.
Grande has provided the Scheib Center with complimentary tickets for numerous events at Texas State University.
The program is designed to cultivate community relationships, while aiming to benefit & brighten the lives of area children & adults in need.

Gary helps raise funds for West residents

The staff from the Gary Job Corps Center have come out to help our neighbors to the North in raising funds. More than $788 was raised to be donated to the United Way of Hays County for the residents of West, Texas. The Gary Center has assisted in the past to other natural disasters from Katrina to Haiti. The Crew from Gary Job Jobs has not only offered funds but labor which was the case in the Clean-up at the Bastrop Fires and the home building in Louisiana following the Katrina Hurricane. Like a good neighbor Gary Job Corps is there.

So it was with Dr. S.M. Sewell, a mathematics professor at what was then Southwest Texas State Normal School (now Texas State University), who loved to take a daily dip way back in 1916.

Driver steers Porsche into San Marcos River

Visitors to the San Marcos River as well as diners at the Saltgrass Steak House got quite a jolt Sunday evening around 7:30 p.m. as a car slid into the curb on Sessom behind the restaurant, flipped upside down and landed in the water.

SMCISD considers cameras outside busses

The San Marcos CISD may soon be joining other school districts across the state in cracking down on drivers who zip past school buses stopped to load and unload children on a daily basis.

In Cahoots: Wimberley Glassworks to open new exhibit this weekend

On Saturday, May 25 from 6 to 8 p.m., Wimberley Glassworks will host In Cahoots, an exhibition featuring some of the collaborative efforts by Tim DeJong and other artists whom the Glassworks have partnered with over a 20-year span. The exhibition pays homage to the successful endeavors of the past that have helped foster what the studio has become today.

Mary Flores Ramirez

Mary Flores Ramirez of San Marcos died May 17, 2013 at the age of 71.
Visitation will be from 2 to 4 p.m. Wednesday at Los Angeles Funeral Home. Rosary will be recited at 7 p.m. that evening at St. John the Evangelist Catholic Church. Mass of Christian Burial will be at 10 a.m. Thursday at St. John the Evangelist Catholic Church. Burial will follow in Memory Lawn Memorial Park, Martindale.
