Girl Scouts hold Mother/Daughter Picnic

The aim of Girl Scouting is to help girls grow strong, and this was truly evident at the Girl Scouts of the San Marcos Area Service Unit’s Mother/Daughter Picnic which was held at the First United Methodist Church on Mother’s Day weekend.
As each family arrived, mother’s were encouraged to build up their daughters by creating a giant poster filled with the positive character traits they see in their girl scout.


New rules prohibit alcohol in city’s parks

Peru news station focuses on area’s drug/alcohol prevention

City Council postpones votes on developments

Tuesday night’s San Marcos City Council meeting took a turn that probably no one expected when not one, but three agenda items were postponed in rapid succession due to just two council members being absent.

Caldwell County sinks Float Fest idea

Marquez gets 50-year sentence

A Kyle resident convicted of three counts of aggravated assault of a child was sentenced to 50 years in prison. All three charges were first-degree felonies.

Bowen, Rogers team up for summer

The “hold my beer and watch this” joke has a certain connotation for drunk people doing stupid things.
But for the past seven years, Wade Bowen and Randy Rogers have teamed up each summer to bring fans an acoustic, intimate show under the title, “Hold My Beer and Watch This.” And this year, Bowen and Rogers give Hays County residents two chances to catch the show with the kick off for the tour at Central Texas Speedway in Kyle on Saturday and another show at Cheatham Street on June 10.


Catching the music bug: After debut album, William Clark Green couldn’t shy away from music

William Clark Green never considered a professional career in music. He didn’t even consider himself a musician until someone told him he was. But during his junior year at Texas Tech University, he just happened to be classmates with Josh Abbott’s drummer. Back then, before Josh Abbott was Josh Abbott, the Josh Abbott Band was playing a weekly Tuesday night gig at the Blue Light in Lubbock.
“I was thinking of starting a band at the time and I asked if I could go watch one of their rehearsals to see how it went and if I could learn something from it,” Green said.


Julian Limon

Julian Limon of San Marcos died May 19, 2013 at the age of 82. 
Visitation will be from 2 to 7:30 p.m. Thursday at Los Angeles Funeral Home and Rosary will be recited at 7:30 p.m. that evening at the funeral home. Mass of Christian Burial will be at 10 a.m. Friday at St. John the Evangelist Catholic Church.
Burial will follow in Memory Lawn Memorial Park in Martindale.
Arrangements entrusted to the Villasenor family - Los Angeles Funeral Home, 300 Cheatham Street, 392-3676.


Mary Flores Ramirez

Mary Flores Ramirez, resident of Porter, became free from her earthly bonds, ascending into the heavens, to be with our Holy Father on May 17, 2013 at the age of 71. Born Sept. 8, 1941 in San Marcos, she is preceded in death by father of her daughter Jesse Ramirez; parents Benito Sr. and Carment Flores. There are several chapters in Mary's life , but the one chapter she cherished was her daughter Regina "Gina" and grandchildren. Even her son-in-law Chris was like a son to her. Though Mary begins her new life with our Lord, like the wind, her warmth and love will always be felt.
