Former mayoral candidate arrested at P&Z meeting

The San Marcos Planning & Zoning Commission meeting took an unexpected turn Tuesday night with the arrest of 61-year-old Thomas Prentice.
Prentice, who ran unsuccessfully against Mayor Daniel Guerrero in last year’s election, was taken out in handcuffs after repeatedly disrupting the proceeding, police said.
Prentice, of 213 Trestle Tree, was charged with resisting arrest, a Class A Misdemeanor, and disrupting a meeting or procession, a Class B. As of mid-morning he had not yet been released from custody in Hays County Jail.

Rudy Sweet Hurtado

Rudy Sweet Hurtado of San Marcos died May 11, 2013 at the age of 51.
Visitation will be from 8 to 9 a.m. Saturday at Los Angeles Funeral Home and Rosary will be recited that morning at 9 a.m. at the funeral home. Mass of Christian Burial will be at 11 a.m. Saturday at Immaculate Heart of Mary Catholic Church in Martindale. Burial will follow in San Juan Cemetery in Reedville.

Joy Therese Hull Wigginton

Joy Therese Hull Wigginton died quietly in New Braunfels, on May 12, 2013 at the age of 91. Born in Hughes Springs on April 29, 1922, she and her twin brother Roy were the youngest of 15 children raised on a farm by their parents, Lena and Charles Hull. Though growing up on the farm was hard, Joy was always surrounded by the love of her parents and older siblings.

The Greater San Marcos Partnership (GSMP) has announced that Adriana Cruz has been selected as its new president, concluding a nearly two-month nationwide search. Cruz will begin her new role on Monday, June 3.

TXST clinical lab students to perform testing at ADA Expo

Student volunteers from the Clinical Laboratory Science (CLS) program at Texas State University will be performing glucose testing at the American Diabetes Association Expo in San Antonio May 18.
The American Diabetes Association Expo will be held in the Henry B. Gonzalez Convention Center.

It is my opinion that our society must take every opportunity to praise our young people for their hard work and accomplishment, and that is why ceremonies such as this are so important to our country's future.
It was not so long ago, after all, that a more conservative America saw things differently. What a harsh place America once was - particularly for our young students.
