MLB: Astros prez Postolos resigns

George Postolos is leaving the Houston Astros, despite what he insists are better days ahead for the struggling team.

“I know it’s going to be successful,” he said. “That’s tough to step away from that.”

Answers to Go: Talking Audobon magazine

Each week hundreds of people call or visit the San Marcos Public Library to find information.  "Answers•To•Go" highlights recently received questions.  Please visit the library at 625 East Hopkins, call 393-8200 for information over the phone, or e-mail us through our web-page at www.sanmarcostx.gov/library.

Q.  Can you help me find a copy of an article from Audubon magazine on natural versus conventional lawns? I’m pretty sure it came out in 1984.

Birding with Jerry Hall: May brings new birds to the area

Welcome to May, a great month for birds and birding. You should be seeing new migrants this time of year, and many “winter” birds should be leaving. For example, the hordes of pine siskins I have been treating to expensive niger seeds have finally headed back north. And I haven't seen an American goldfinch since May began – although lesser goldfinches are still around.

13 Questions with Betsy Sammon

At the Lone Star Family Market time is of the essence. Business partners Betsy Sammon and Karen Davis were social workers for two decades before starting their own grocery store. It began with one store in Austin in 2004, but quickly grew to six from Roundrock to San Marcos. With one location in San Marcos, Sammon and Davis (and their third partner, Sammon’s brother, Michael) try to keep their stores as easily accessible for families in the WIC (Women, Infants, Children) program as they can, always trying to think of new ways to cut down time at the store.

A time for tea: Hands of Hope celebrates Spring 2013 graduating class

Hands of Hope has been actively helping women in the San Marcos area for more than eight years now and recently celebrated its latest class’ graduation.
Organized in 2004 with their first class completing a 10-week session in January of 2005, Hands of Hope was formerly known as the Christian Women’s Job Corps, one of 215 sites in the United States and 68 in Texas.
In 2008, the local group, which meets at First Baptist Church on McCarty Lane, changed their name to Hands of Hope to avoid confusion name-wise with Gary Job Corps.

CFPO-PAL Football: Run of a lifetime

Like most athletes the night before a big game, 14-year-old James Roberson couldn’t sleep.

“I had gone to bed about 10:30 or 11 and heard the TV still on in the front room,” Don Roberson, James’ father, said. “I went out there and he was still up watching SportsCenter, just waiting on the football highlights. I had to tell him, ‘Go to bed,’ so he could get some rest for his big day.”

Trigger Point Yoga works wonders for tight muscles

Last week the San Marcos Runner's Club had Ana Johnson as a guest speaker for their monthly meeting.

Ana is a Trigger Point Yoga instructor and gave the members and guests a few tips on how to use her techniques to help them in running, or just general alignment and release of tight muscles.

I have had the opportunity to take a few classes from Ana and give this Trigger Point Yoga a try. I was a little hesitant at doing yoga stances that you think about when you see yoga instructors in some very strange contortions.
