Youngsters will raise voices to help food bank

The San Marcos community is invited to welcome the spring through song as the local young singers of the Hill Country Youth Chorus present their end-of-the-year concert with the Texas Lutheran Youth Choir at the First Lutheran Church in San Marcos at 3 p.m. Sunday, April 28.
The feature piece on the program will be the Peace Mass by Bob Chilcott.
The concert is free to the public, but the members of choir encourage attendees to bring a sack or box of non-perishable food to donate to the Hays County Food Bank.

San Marcos Heart Walk is Saturday

Texas State University’s track and field stadium will be the site for this year’s San Marcos Heart Walk on Saturday.
Opening ceremonies are at 8 a.m. with the Heart Walk itself kicking off at 9 a.m.
The annual 5K non-competitive walking event is designed to bring public awareness to physical activity and a heart-healthy lifestyle, while raising the funds used to fund heart disease and stroke research and educational programs in the Central Texas region.
Teams are made up of employees from local companies, along with friends and family members of all ages.

Downtown: Messy project expected to be completed in 2014

There is a light at the end of the tunnel for San Marcos’ massive downtown street and utility project.
But it’s still a ways off.

School bond: Cost low but benefits high

We strongly support the two bond issues that are on the ballot on Saturday, May 11. It is time to continue the work that the previous bond issue started – having schools that the entire city can be proud of owning. As taxpayers, parents and former educators in San Marcos CISD, we believe it is the right thing to do.
