Caution urged as Criterium riders race around town

The race route will be closed to traffic and includes MLK Drive from Guadalupe to S. Edward Gary; S. Edward Gary to Hopkins Street; Hopkins between Edward Gary and Guadalupe; and Guadalupe from Hopkins to W. MLK. San Antonio Street, Hopkins Street, Guadalupe Street, LBJ Drive and Edward Gary Street will be closed where they intersect with the route. Traffic will detour around the closures via Cheatham Street, CM Allen Parkway, Hutchison Street, and Fredericksburg Street. Peter Vogt, Texas State Cycling Team, (512) 281-5672.

TEXAS STATE CYCLING TEAM CRITERIUM BICYCLE RACE: Downtown area will closed April 14 (6 a.m. to 1:30 p.m.) for a bicycle race.
The race route will be closed to traffic and includes MLK Drive from Guadalupe to S. Edward Gary; S. Edward Gary to Hopkins Street; Hopkins between Edward Gary and Guadalupe and Guadalupe from Hopkins to W. MLK. Calderon graduates from basic training

Army National Guard Pfc. Juan F. Calderon has graduated from basic combat training at Fort Jackson, Columbia, S.C.
During the nine weeks of training, the soldier studied the Army mission, history, tradition and core values, physical fitness, and received instruction and practice in basic combat skills, military weapons, chemical warfare and bayonet training, drill and ceremony, marching, rifle marksmanship, armed and unarmed combat, map reading and field tactics.
Calderon is the son of Antonieta Calderon of Johnnys Way, Kyle.

Joe ‘J.C.’ Arredondo

Joe “J.C.” Arredondo, 57, of New Braunfels, died April 3, 2013.
Visitation was Sunday, April 7 at Los Angeles Funeral Home, followed by a wake in the Los Angeles Funeral Chapel.
Morning visitation was Monday at Renew Church in New Braunfels, followed by services at the church. Burial was in Memory Lawn Memorial Park in Martinale.

Bill McCoy, 82, of Midland, died April 9, 2013.

Rodolfo “Fin” D. Martinez, 63, of San Marcos, died March 29, 2013.
