College Baseball: Bobcats rough up La. Tech

Texas State’s offense hasn’t been a model of consistency throughout the 2013 season.

Such was the case Friday night, when the Bobcats slipped past Louisiana Tech for a 1-0 win in the series opener.

But Texas State turned it around in big fashion Saturday, collecting 12 hits in a 9-5 win over the Bulldogs at Bobcat Ballpark.

The victory marked only the second time this year Texas State won the first two games of a three-game series, allowing the Bobcats (13-22) to stay in the thick of the Western Athletic Conference title race with a 7-4 conference record.

College Softball: Bobcats take two at UTA

ARLINGTON — Texas State might be slowly turning its season around, one conference series at a time.

Last weekend the Bobcats traveled to Arlington to face an old conference foe. Texas State and UT-Arlington faced each other for many years as members of the Southland Conference.

After a doubleheader sweep last Friday, the Bobcats went into last Saturday’s game looking for their second three-game sweep of the season.

HS Softball: Lady Rattlers clinch playoff berth

San Marcos is headed to the Class 5A postseason.

By virtue of the Lady Rattlers’ 15-2 run-rule home win Friday night over San Antonio-Wagner and Smithson Valley’s victory over Converse-Judson, Cathy Stoughton’s team clinched one of the four playoff spots from District 25-5A.

“Words can’t express how proud I am of my team,” Stoughton said. “We might be young, but we’ve grown a lot this year and are continuing to do so.”

Running with Moe fo 4/14

Usually I don’t have days when not much is planned, but the other day one such day occurred. These are days when you have too much time on your hands and you begin to think about abstract things.

Since I spend much of my free time involved in races in one form or another thoughts often concern something about a race. This day the thought that came to mind was, “Why do we run 5K races but everyone wants to know the mile time?” Why not have a three miles race and stop there? Why do we need to add that one tenth of a mile to make it a 5K?

Remembering Jaimy: The man behind ‘the look’

At the moment the photograph was taken, Jaimy looked right at me and gave me the “look” I can only guess many elected officials sought to avoid.
