HCCS students place in UIL state academic competitions

This year some of those on the TAPPS 1A Academics team for Hill Country Christian School made it to the state competitions held in Austin at Concordia University.
The three that qualified were juniors Frank Linam and Ariana Rhem and senior Jacob Horton.
Rehm, however, was unable to make it to state, because of a conflicting volleyball tournament.
Linam and Horton both took part in the science competition. When they finally posted the results, Linam had received sixth place.

Texas too much for the Bobcats

AUSTIN — When Texas State head coach Ty Harrington sent junior Donnie Hart and sophomore Austen Williams to the mound March 26 against Texas, their jobs were simple. Hart and Williams had to stop the bleeding and provide a bridge to junior closer Hunter Lemke, while the offense mounted a rally.

Exactly 14 days later, Hart and Williams didn’t have enough gauze to save the Bobcats. By the time Hart and Williams pitched, the Longhorns already turned Texas State into a mangled mess.

Rattler boys basketball honored at annual banquet

Members of the San Marcos High School varsity boys basketball program were recently honored at the team’s annual awards banquet.

Senior Alex Frye was named the team’s MVP and leading rebounder, after leading the Rattlers with 13.1 points and 7.9 rebounds per game.

Junior Josh Coleman was the team’s offensive player of the year and leader in assists, scoring 11.3 points 4.4 assists per outing.

Rough night for the Rattlers against Smithson Valley

It seemed as if Tuesday night’s District 25-5A game between San Marcos and Smithson Valley was on its way to becoming another defensive showdown after four innings.

Smithson Valley held a 2-1 lead after the second inning, as both teams came through with several standout defensive plays that kept the score low.
But that all changed in the top of the fifth, as two SMHS errors and three walks helped Smithson Valley post four runs in the inning on its way to a 7-1 win at Rattler Field.

Bobcat softball falls to BU in thriller

It was the game that just didn’t want to end. It took a pair of two-run home runs in extra innings for the No. 16 Baylor Bears to finally put away the Texas State Bobcats 7-3 after 10 innings Tuesday night at Bobcat Field.

A two-out RBI by Bobcat junior Coralee Ramirez tied the game up at 1-all in the bottom of the sixth inning, but things didn’t slow down from there. It was still tied in the top of the ninth when Baylor junior Holly Holl swatted a two-run home run over the left centerfield fence.
