‘Trick Photography’ subject of free media camp on Feb. 21

Latinitas magazine hosts session for girls

San Marcos — Maximizing use of available library computer labs, Latinitas, the first digital magazine made for and by young Latinas, will be conducting its free media camps for all girls ages 8 to 14 at the San Marcos Library every 3rd Saturday of the month from 10:30 a.m. to noon with lessons in blogging, web and graphic design, digital photography, radio and video.  

 The next free Saturday media camp is Feb.21, in “Trick Photography,” where girls learn to create optical illusions using digital photography. Cameras are provided and girls can print out their favorite picture at the end of the workshop.

On March 21, Latinitas will host “Web Divas,” where girls will learn to make their own web magazine and on April 17, Latinitas will provide a lesson in “Black and White Photography.” 

Latinitas free Saturday media camps are an extension of two digital magazines published monthly online. These camps feature a snapshot of Latinitas’ after school programming in Central and West Texas, now on 25 school campuses.

“For the majority of Hispanic girls in Central Texas, the library is the most access they have to technology outside of school and is the perfect setting for these free media camps.” said Laura Donnelly, Latinitas co-founder.

 Latinitas (www.latinitasmagazine.org) is a non-profit publication with outreach programs dedicated to the advancement and empowerment of Latina youth through media and technology. 

Its vision is that all young Latinas are strong and confident in their own image.
