Narvaiz wins another term

Jones holds onto council post

San Marcos San Marcos Mayor Susan Narvaiz won another term on Tuesday.

Narvaiz won with 6,449 votes (50.08 percent); compared to 3,867 (30.03 percent) for challenger Dave Newman and 2,562 (19.89 percent) for Daniel McCarthy.

Returning to the city council with Narvaiz will be Council member Place 4 Christopher Jones, who defeated challenger Lisa Marie Coppoletta by a vote of 6,165 (55.60 percent) to 4,923 (44.40 percent).

Fred A. Terry ran unopposed for City Council Place 3.

“It was a good evening and it was exciting that I was ahead all night,” Narvaiz said this morning. “I’m excited about the future.”

Narvaiz said she had expected the race would be close. “We knew there would be a large voter turnout,” she said. “With three people in the race there are always different things that can happen. You anticipate that.”

“I want to extend my congratulations to Susan, she ran a good ethical, clean race,” Newman said.

“I feel we were able to get some of the issues out there to the front that people here in San Marcos had genuine concerns about. I feel as though my campaign was able to define some of those issues, to bring them to light. I hope Susan will keep those issues in mind — the issues of part of her constituency that have made their voice heard during the campaign. I hope we can follow through with some of those things. I think it will make it a better city for all of us to live in.”
