TAMACC Legislative Awards Gala Jan. 27

The Texas Association of Mexican American Chambers of Commerce TAMACC, will hold its annual Legislative Awards Gala on Tuesday, Jan. 27, with a 6 p.m. cocktail reception and 7 p.m. dinner and awards. The Hyatt Regency Hotel is this year’s site, located at 208 Barton Springs Road, Austin. For ticket information (512) 444-5727.



Hispanic Business Leaders Meet

with Obama Team

Several top Hispanic business leaders met with representatives of President-elect Obama’s staff in the Presidential Transition Team’s offices Friday in two meetings to discuss a wide range of issues and concerns related to the country’s slumping economy.

With CEOs and entrepreneurs from several industries – including manufacturing, construction, information technology and food and beverage producers – the United States Hispanic Chamber of Commerce (USHCC) led a discussion covering a variety of issues including Latina-owned businesses, economic stimulus, community investment, healthcare and education reform, immigration and the Troubled Asset Relief Program (TARP).

San Marcos a

Community Legacy

The LBJ Museum of San Marcos joins Texas State University in its extended celebration. “Remembering LBJ and His Legacy: Local Recollections – An Oral History Project Exhibit” will remain on display throughout this academic year. The exhibit includes audio clips from interviews with 48 people, along with photographs and memorabilia.

Museum hours are Thursday, Friday and Sunday 1 p.m. – 5 p.m., Saturday 10 a.m.- 5 p.m. The museum is located at 131 N. Guadalupe on the Courthouse Square. Group tours can be arranged by calling Museum Director Scott Jordan at 353-3300, or e-mailing www.lbjmuseum.com. Admission is free.

Texas State University will host a symposium that examines city planning and local history Jan. 14–15. Call the museum office for information.

The San Marcos Hispanic Chamber of Commerce can help existing or start-up businesses, give assistance with HUB certification, and overall assistance in every phase of the business cycle.
