Chamber Window - Aug. 15, 2010

What I love about San Marcos ...

— A few weeks back I ran a column sharing with you what different chamber members love the most about San Marcos.  We even posted the question on LinkedIn for our chamber group members in this online networking group to respond.  And the responses just keep pouring in.

From time to time we need to step away from the grind and remind ourselves of how we are so fortunate to live in such a wonderful community.  Here are some more great testimonies, posted to our Chamber LinkedIn site. Hope you enjoy.

Ronald Oswalt: San Marcos Baptist Academy: “I like the ease of community involvement, how you can easily network and become part of San Marcos in such a short amount of time over larger cities. San Marcos is friendly and each business supports each others endeavors.”

Sharri Boyett: PALS: “So many caring people willing to support the community.

Lisa Tanksley: ”I love the community interaction – so many involved in such great causes. There is such a sense of working together and building together...the support of your neighbors is felt.”

William (Bill) Adams: Texas State University: “I enjoy all the opportunities provided by Texas State University and city of San Marcos, my “'rush-hour” drive by Sewell Park to and from my place of business, and how the San Marcos community is bicycle friendly with bike paths through the ball parks, river parks, activities center and library. There are so many cultural activities throughout the week and especially on the weekends with music and various civic activities, we are rarely, if ever, without something to do. And last but certainly not least, there is Spring Lake and the San Marcos River that truly designates San Marcos as 'The Gateway to the Hill Country.”

Cynthia Hazel: Consumer Credit Counseling:  "I love the diversity of smart and creative people in our area that care so much about our community and work towards making it such a great and unique place to live and work.”

Terry Chase Hazell: Texas State University: “I like the warm welcome I've received from the business community, the chamber and the entrepreneurship scene.”

Sammy Falletta: Interactive Security Technologies, LLC: “From our home off San Antonio street, my wife, myself and our two dogs can be in the river, in 15 minutes. By bike. I have been in San Marcos for 12 years now and didn't know one person, now I call SM home. It is always great to run into friends on the river, downtown has that small town feel you want and is within 45 minutes either way to big city attractions. What a gift. Thanks for asking.”

Robbie Wiley: Century 21: “When I moved to San Marcos in 1978 I thought I had ‘Died and Gone to Heaven!’ Being from West Texas, I had never seen so many trees and water – especially the San Marcos River. What a blessing to be able to call San Marcos my home!”

Donovon Knighton: “When we moved the family here from Houston in 1998 my 14 year old son nailed it when I asked him what he liked about San Marcos when he said, ‘it's got everything you need.’ What a great place to live.”

Tom Jenkins Sr.: Prime Outlets- San Marcos: “I have great admiration for the city leaders and their progressive nature. Being a BIG Aggie I have a tremendous amount of respect for Texas State University, their administrators, faculty, staff and student body, many of whom make up our workforce at the Prime Outlets. I feel a lot of pride when I hear the university's vision and see it happening on a daily basis. This is a wonderful community, spirited citizens and a great place to be part of. How can we not take pride in the diverse array of some of the world's finest retailers, united with San Marcos' strong orientation to family entertainment, food and excellent hotel facilities.”

There are so many great reasons to live, work, learn and play in San Marcos.  Thanks for sharing your love for the community.  The best salespeople for our community are its citizens.  The San Marcos Chamber is working everyday on your behalf to promote what is unique and special about our community. The San Marcos Chamber of Commerce remains focused on business, focused on you.  Check us out on the Web at www.sanmarcostexas.com.

What will Heaven be like? This age-old question has been answered in many ways. Heaven has been made the butt of thousands of jokes. These usually begin with three people approaching those pearly gates and having a conversation with Peter, the apostle and holder of the keys to the blessed land.
