‘Commencement Day’ at Gary Job Corps Friday
Gary Job Corps joined 125 Job Corps centers across the country to celebrate the third annual “National Job Corps Commencement Day” ceremony Friday, congratulating the Job Corps students who proved that Job Corps works by completing the program this year.
Job Corps centers are located across the country and in all 50 states. A unique national program, Job Corps offers at-risk youth a set of diverse academic opportunities and career pathways tailored to meet the needs of business and industry.
Each year, Job Corps gives tens of thousands of youth a second chance to complete their education and advance into careers, higher education or the military.
Mayor Daniel Guerrero was the keynote speaker, stating, “Never hesitate to ask for help, set goals, write them down and share them. Live your dreams and not be afraid; don’t forget to thank those that helped you through your journey.”
Congressmen sending letters of congratulations to Gary were Lloyd Doggett, Gene Green, Ralph Hall, Henry Cuellar and Lamar Smith. Also congratulating Gary graduates were Texas House Representative Tim Kleinschmidt and San Marcos Chamber President Brian Bondy.
