Amelia ‘Amy’ N. Martinez

After a long battle with cancer, Amelia "Amy" N. Martinez died peacefully at her home in San Marcos on Feb. 16, 2013 surrounded by her family. She was 68 years old.
A native of Laredo, she was born on Feb. 6, 1945.
She was a graduate of Martin High School and Laredo Junior College.
Amy was a member of San Martin de Porres Catholic Church where she was a CCD teacher and Guadalupana, and also worked for the city of Laredo for 20 years, where she received employee of the year honors.
Amy was a very devoted and loving wife, mother and grandmother. She also offered a helping hand to those who needed it.
Her parents Carlos and Irene (Gonzales) Negrete; brother Rogelio Negrete and nephews Ruben Rangel Jr. and Carlos Roberto Rangel preceded her in death.
She is survived by her devoted husband, Julio G. Martinez Sr.; sons Raul G. Guardiola (Clarissa) of Laredo and Julio G. Martinez Jr. (Jake) of McAllen; daughters Rosie Negrete (Blanca) of San Marcos, Aimee Martinez of McAllen and Tiffiny Martinez of San Marcos; brothers Carlos T. Negrete, Jorge Negrete (Josie) and Gilberto Negrete (Eloisa), all of San Antonio; sisters Irene N. Mendoza (Ernesto) of Dallas, Oralia N. Mendoza (Luis) of Dallas, Graciela N. Rangel of Laredo, Cleotilde N. Romanos (Alfredo)of San Marcos and Teresa Ramos of Oklahoma; and grandchildren Alex Pina, Andrew Pina, Joseph P. Negrete, Alex Guardiola, Allen Guardiola, Jasmine Vasquez and Alexa Vasquez.
The family would like to make special mention of Britney Irene, Daphne Rose and Bryan Peter Martinez, who also survive her.
Family will receive friends Wednesday, Feb. 20 at Pennington Funeral Home, at 5 p.m. with Recitation of the Holy Rosary at 7 p.m.
Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 10 a.m. Thursday, Feb. 21 at St. John’s Catholic Church in San Marcos. Interment to follow in Memory Lawn Memorial Park in Martindale.
