Car seat inspections at CTMC Tuesday
There’s no more precious cargo than babies and young children. But all the best efforts on the part of parents to equip their vehicles with the best possible child safety seats will fail if the seat is not installed properly.
Throughout the rest of the month, parents in Central Texas will have several opportunities to have their child’s car seat inspected fee by a certified technician.
In San Marcos, the chance comes from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. Tuesday, May 14, under the covered driveway at the entrance to the Women’s Center at Central Texas Medical Center.
Though the inspection is free, appointments are required and can be made at 393-5567.
During the inspections, technicians check existing car seats for manufacturer recalls.
They also ensure that the seat is installed correctly. If it isn’t, the person is taught how to reinstall the car seat the right way. Every car seat is also evaluated to determine if it is appropriate for the age, height and weight of the child.
“If the seat is not ‘good’ because of age, recall, or damage, or if they don’t have a seat at all or are an expecting mother, we provide the seats to them at no cost,” Susan Youngblood, RN, Central Texas Medical Center’s Trauma coordinator, said. “Of course, there is always education about car seat safety, applicable driving laws, safety recommendations, etc.”
