College Softball: Bobcats host Houston Baptist
After winning two of three on the road at Seattle U last weekend, the Texas State softball team will take a break from Western Athletic Conference play today with a 6 p.m. home game against Houston Baptist.
The game is the first of a five-game home stretch for the Bobcats.
Texas State (7-27, 2-4 WAC) is led in the circle by freshman Ashley Wright and junior Rayn House who both have three wins under their belt. House has a team-high 59 strikeouts in 93.0 innings pitched.
Senior Haley Lemons leads Texas State at the plate with a batting average of .288 with 30 hits and 14 runs scored.
The Bobcats have 13 total home runs this season — four more than Texas State had in all of 2012. Jordan Masek and Katie Doerre lead the pack with a trio of homers each, while Coralee Ramirez and Courtney Harris have both registered two apiece.
The Bobcats are coming off a 7-4 win Sunday at Seattle, the first time Texas State has scored seven or more runs since March 2 in a 7-1 win over Texas A&M-Corpus Christi.
Houston Baptist (13-13) enters Tuesday on a two-game losing streak after dropping a pair of games at Nicholls State.
Lauren Schwirtlich leads the Huskies with a .506 batting average, in addition to 41 hits and 29 runs scored. HBU’s pitching staff has an ERA of 3.11, while Keely Shuler and Kendall Stiefel have four wins each.
