CTMC accepting applications for HeartStrong camps
Central Texas Medical Center Hospice Care is accepting applications for Camp HeartSong and Camp Heart- Song, Too!
Camp HeartSong and Camp Heart-Song, Too! are both summer bereavement camps sponsored by CTMC Hospice Care in San Marcos. These camps have been created to meet the special needs of children and adolescents who have experienced the death
of a family member or significant person in their lives.
The primary goal for both camps is to provide a stress-free and fun experience
where kids can “just be kids."
In addition, the camps will provide a safe and supportive environment to
explore the feelings surrounding their loss. The well-being and emotional
safety of each participant is of primary importance and the individual
needs of each camper will be treated with respect. Support groups and individual
counseling will be made available by our bereavement counselor.
Camp HeartSong is for children ages 8-13-years old and will be held at John Knox Ranch, a beautiful 300-acre camp facility located in the heart of the Texas Hill Country on the banks of the Blanco River, six miles from Wimberley. Kids will spend three days and two nights in camp lodges supervised by trained adult camp
counselors including a licensed social worker and registered nurse.
Camp dates are June 9, 10 and 11.
Camp HeartSong, Too!, is a day camp for adolescents ages 14 to 18 years old and will take place on June 13-14, 2013. Teens will spend two days participating in group activities including sports, gaming, a ropes course and arts and crafts. Please note that Camp HeartSong, Too! is a day camp only.
“When a young child experiences a significant death such as a parent or sibling, the loss can have a detrimental effect,” said Lisa Adams, Public Relations Coordinator for CTMC Hospice Care. “We believe emotional comfort is important for acceptance after a loss, just as encouragement from their loved ones. At Camp HeartSong and Camp HeartSong, Too!, our goal is to walk with these children along the road as they heal.”
Both camps are funded through the CTMC Seasons of Sharing annual campaign and through the generous donations from community members. There is no cost for the children to attend and meals and snacks are provided; however, space is limited.
