CTMC opens new Mommy Baby Boutique
From Staff Reports
Central Texas Medical Center (CTMC) recently held a grand opening event for the Honeysuckle Mommy Baby Boutique.
The store is located inside the CTMC Women’s Center and features lactation supplies and consultation as well as custom, hand-made gifts and merchandise. The opening of Honeysuckle represents another important step in CTMC’s growing focus on breastfeeding initiatives.
In 2011, CTMC partnered with the Mother’s Milk Bank at Austin to become the only Certified Milk Depot in Hays County and has since collected thousands of ounces of breast milk for infants in need.
In 2012, CTMC was certified by the state of Texas as a Mother Friendly Worksite for its commitment to accommodate employees who are breastfeeding.
The hospital also earned the Texas Ten Step Program facility designation from the Texas Department of State Health Services last year. The Texas Ten Step Program encourages breastfeeding as the preferred method of feeding for newborns and infants.
Additionally in 2012, CTMC partnered with the City of San Marcos for a proclamation to observe National Breastfeeding Month locally, which is celebrated in August.
“Currently, 85 percent of our moms are breastfeeding when they go home with their babies,” said CTMC Director of Women’s Services Margie Lieck. “Honeysuckle provides a more convenient way for breastfeeding mothers to access lactation supplies and services. Lactation consultation will be provided through the store seven days a week.”
