Editor's Note: A thousand hours

They say a picture is worth a thousand words. But I beg to differ.
I’m a full-time student at Texas State and I’m currently enrolled in a sophomore American Literature class. We’ve been talking about existentialism under the pretense of Grendel by John Gardener.
Gardener spent a lot of words —way more than a thousand — talking about the difference between existentialism and surfer existentialism. There are a lot of theories out there about the book. This mysterious “they” say a lot. But, Gardener’s point is to tell people that good art is the point of life.
