Guadalupe Hinojosa Castilleja
As beautiful as a movie star and as unaffected as a flower, our mother Guadalupe Hinojosa Castilleja was summoned by our Lord on Wednesday, July 31, 2013 @3:33 p.m., at the age of 67. After years of battling several different aliments, Guadalupe passed peacefully as she was surrounded by her loved ones.
Guadalupe was born Aug. 7, 1945 in Maxwell, to Mr. and Mrs. Santiago and Frances Hinojosa. She was born into a big family of five brothers and seven sisters.
Growing up, Guadalupe had a love for singing, dancing and praising God. She grew up with a strong sense of Faith in our Lord and made Christ present in everything she did.
On May 30, 1964, Guadalupe married Narciso R. Castilleja and her family doubled in size, as she became close with her husband’s family. Together Guadalupe and Narciso had four wonderful children. They spent 33 blissful years side by side until Narciso was suddenly called to be with our Lord on Oct. 5, 1997.
Throughout her 67 years, Guadalupe was not only an amazing daughter, sister, aunt, cousin, friend and mother, she also found time to serve the many organizations she was so passionate about. Guadalupe taught religious education for more than 37 years and was an active member in the following church organizations: Archicofradia, Guadalupanas, church choir and charismatic prayer group. Due to her illness, Guadalupe was unable to continue participation in these organizations that she was so passionate about. However, she always held them dear to her heart.
Guadalupe was employed as a church secretary at St. John Church and as a facilitator for the city of San Marcos grant program Families in Focus. It was during her time with Families in Focus that she helped many wonderful families and affected their lives deeply.
Guadalupe was preceded in death by her parents Frances and Santiago Hinojosa Jr.; brother Jose Hinojosa and sisters Sarah Villanueva, Beatrice Velasquez, Alice Hinojosa and Janie Cosio.
She is survived by her children Richard H. Castilleja and Edward H. Castilleja; sister RoseAnn H. Castilleja M.C-M. and Patricia Lynn Anderson; her siblings Oscar Hinojosa (Elaine), Marie Rocha, Santiago Hinojosa III (Alice), Paul Hinojosa, Gloria Scheuber (Scott) and Jesus Hinojosa (Lisa).
Guadalupe also leaves behind many nieces and nephews and great nieces and nephews. Besides missing our beloved mother Guadalupe, her family and friends will also miss her annual parties. She always welcomed anyone and everyone with open arms and an open heart. We were fortunate enough to make many wonderful memories throughout the years with friends and family. It meant the world to mom as she was surrounded by those that loved her most.
We would like to thank our family and friends for their continual support and prayers during this difficult time. We would also like to send special thanks to thanks to Linda and Vincent Delgado, Missionary Cordi-Marian Sisters, Satellite Dialysis, CTMC Advanced Wound care, Warm Springs in Luling, Regent Care Skilled Nursing and Rehab Facility, Seton Medical Center Hays and especially Dr. Alberto Santos III MD DO and Dr. Chamalee Weeratunge, MD.
Guadalupe lived a wonderful life. She embraced every moment the Lord gave her with her beautiful smile. Although she will be greatly missed, we take comfort in knowing she is now an angel of God watching over us and is now reunited with those she loves.
