Hays County Child Care Providers hosts Spring Training, seeks new members
The Hays County Child Care Providers Training Committee conducted a Spring Training on April 6 at Rocking Horse Academy in Kyle with 145 registered participants who care for 1,500 children in various child care facilities in Hays and surrounding counties.
The planning committee consists of Rebecca Eichen and Maria Matts from Rocking Horse Academy, Stephanie Bonnet-Kramer and Marie Jones from Hays CISD and Laura Petty with the Texas A&M AgriLife Extension Service.
Child care providers are required to complete numerous hours of training annually, so the committee provides two trainings a year to help them get 10 of their required hours, network with others and gain new ideas to implement in their centers. Fourteen breakout sessions were offered on a variety of topics including circle time, fitness, special needs and discipline. A closing session, presented by Dr. Connie Sheppard with the Texas A&M AgriLife Extension Service in Bexar County, focused on “Emotional Bank Accounts,” highlighting the importance of helping children and providers feel accepted and valued. In addition to the educational sessions, there were also a variety of exhibitors and vendors.

The training committee also needs additional members who are willing to help with the planning and conducting of such trainings. Potential presenters are also sought for future trainings. Contact Laura Petty at 393-2120 or email@example.com if you are interested in serving on the training committee and/or presenting a session in the future.
