HCCS Shines at District Competition

Hill Country Christian School students.

This year was a terrific one for the high school students of Hill Country Christian School that took part in their district TAPPS competition for academics and arts. Voice did excellent, academics did great, art was dominated and instrumental is yet to be done.
On Monday, Aviana Burkepile, a freshman, competed in the vocalist competition. She sang Ava Maria and earned a I rating for which she will advance to state.
For the academic competition, HCCS students showed their smarts in categories such as science, math, writing and vocabulary. Junior Frank Linam, who plans on becoming a biologist, earned first place in arithmetic and second place in science. Jacob Horton, a senior, also competed in science and took third place overall. While junior Ariana Rehm showed off her spelling skills and took fourth place. All of these students will now proceed to the state competition in April.
Finally, HCCS students showed off their creative abilities in the art competition and came home with bragging rights. Emily Soderquist, a junior, competed in the black-and-white drawing category and took fourth, while Andrea Anderson, a senior, entered photography too and won first place for a live action shot of a ballet performance. However, the student who stood out the most in the art competition was senior Jacob Horton, who took first place for his black-and-white drawing, second place for his senior portfolio, first and second place in communication design and fourth place in photography.
In overall academics for the school, Hill Country took third place. The students of HCCS that partook in this annual competition of intellectual and artistic skill are: Amanda Duggins, Andrea Anderson, Ryan Vogel, Frank Linam, Jenni Ethridge, Aviana Burkepile, Ariana Rehm, Jacob Horton, Cora Bonham, Emily Soderquist, Geoffrey Bretches, Madison George, Kenzie Philips and Larissa Varella.
