High School Football: SMHS unveils 2013 schedule
San Marcos might never have an easy district in football — and because of that, its non-district schedule won’t be any easier. After all, iron is hardened by steel.
Due to their location, the Rattlers will always be stuck in a tough district with powerhouses from Austin (Westlake) to San Antonio (Converse-Judson) — and everywhere in between (Smithson Valley).
If San Marcos wants to turn itself into a juggernaut under Mark Soto’s reign, it must go through other juggernauts in the process. There is no better example of that than to look at the Rattlers’ schedule in 2013.
Outside of five opponents from District 25-5A, Soto’s bunch faces two other Class 5A teams and three from Class 4A. Six of the Rattlers’ foes in the upcoming season reached the playoffs last year.
