HS Soccer: Bears still undefeated after tie
For the second time in a week, the San Marcos Academy boys’ soccer team and their fans at Neeley Field had to settle for a 0-0 tie Friday night after a rematch with Austin Regents.
The Bears beat the Knights, 2-1, in mid-January, but were hampered this time around by several injuries to key players.
“We were hit hard with illness and injuries tonight as starting keeper Braxton Wise was out sick, along with many of our offensive players,” SMA head coach Scott Moore said. “We managed to keep the unbeaten record intact with the players we had.”
Among the walking wounded was Bear goal leader Enrique Galan, who took a kick in the head that gave him a bad concussion. Mark Lee was out with a bloody toe, and Cole Williams was hampered by turf toe.
There were plenty of shots during the game, however, as both teams combined for 23 attempts.
Academy sophomore Ben Billings was up to task in the net, registering a shutout.
The Bears are now 15-0-2 overall and 5-0-2 in district play.
