Jose Alvarez Sr.
Jose Alvarez Sr., resident of San Marcos, surrounded by his loving family, became free from his earthly bonds, ascending into the heavens, to be with our Holy Father on March 5, 2013 at the young age of 61.
He is preceded in death by his parents Isidro and Virginia Alvarez and his sister Tomasa Vuittonet. Jose honored his family and country serving in the United States Army during the Viet Nam conflict. His life may have been short, but it had many chapters.
After finishing his tour of duty, working for Phillips 66 Pipeline for eight years and Gary Job Corp for another eight years, Jose decided to open his own business, "Alvarez Concrete" and for the next 15 years, worked diligently where he finally retired. But his pride and joy was his wife of 43 years Alicia Hernandez Alvarez and his children. Jose loved baseball ... that was his pastime and he put together his own team on weekends. But, when he wanted to relax, Jose would go fishing ... a lot of the time with his son Joe J!
Our father's warmth, love and laughter will dearly be missed, but his legacy will always continue through his children and grandchildren.
His life continues through his wife Alicia H. Alvarez; son Joe Alvarez Jr. and wife Letty; daughters Mary Jane Alvarez and Becky Balles and husband J.J., all of San Marcos; sisters Janie Hernandez and husband Willie Crayton, Virginia Castellon and husband Porfilio, Maria Elena Cordero and husband Lupe, all of San Marcos, Connie Zuniga of Corpus Christi, Linda Alvarez and husband Gus Lozano of Killeen, Sylvia Gonzales and husband Aristeo of Indiana; grandchildren Justin, Jeremiah, Esteban and Jonathan Alvarez, Destiny Brown, and Joshua Balles; along with numerous nieces and nephews.
