Keeping the romance alive - second place winners

For Eva and me it was love at first sight. Throughout our lifetime I have tried to show it at every opportunity that presented itself to me, especially on the anniversary of the day we met; on her birthday; on Saint Valentine’s Day; on the anniversary of our marriage, etc., etc. I usually did so by bringing her flowers and candy on those occasions or by taking her to her favorite local resaurant for a regal repast. Sometimes we would go to a department story to have her select a dress of her choice.
Many other material attentions I lavished upon her might be considered “little things,” but I agree with the composer who entitled his greatest song hit “Little Things Mean a Lot.” But by far, the most meaningful manifestations of my affections are the published poems I pen to convey my heartfelt emotions to her. The flowers wither away and the food is consumed, but the verses will not go away. The poem that follows is an example that says it all:

Published below is the Daily Record’s traditional Valentine written by Dr. Roberto A. Galvan.
A Valentine for Eva
On this day of valentines
I have brought you
flowers and candy
Soon the candy will be gone
and the roses
will have withered
but the love they symbolize
will remain intact forever
in your heard and in your mind

I don’t need a celebration
to convey my love for you
It is now ensconced forever
in the sessions of your thoughts
and the oneness that we share
after we have said our prayers
for it now dwells in the genes
of the sprouts
that we engendered
who now bless our
home and hearth
And no serpent or detractor
can diminish its degree
or defile or tear assunder
what the Lord has
joined for good
with his bonds of matrimony
and his sanctity of love.

Now seven children later who turned out to be high achievers after 55 years of wedded bliss, I feel that I must havebeen doing the right things to keep the flame of the torch burning brightly during said interim. Right?
