Teams sought for LBJ Museum golf tourney
The LBJ Museum of San Marcos is seeking golfers to participate in its 11th annual golf tournament set for Quail Creek Country Club Saturday, June 8.
Returning for his third year as tournament director is Scott Gregson, treasurer of the museum's board of directors. Gregson reports that he has already received the first team entry for 2013 from the Austin law firm of Linebarger Goggan Blair and Simpson.
The deadline for entering the tournament is June 3. The tournament is a valuable source of museum operating funds.
Last year, 15 teams participated in the annual museum fundraiser which was initiated 11years ago by long-time museum board member Ed Cable who passed away in November of 2009.
A four-person team sponsored by LBJ Museum Board member John Navarrette took first place in the 10th annual tournament. Playing on the winning team were Joey Gold, Byron Marburger, Len Thompson and Todd Gold.
The team's handicap-adjusted net score was 49.9. Team Navarrette members Todd Gold and Len Thomp-son also won individual awards for closet to the pin and longest drive.
Golf teams, sponsors, raffle items and door prizes are needed for this year's tourament. The tournament features a four-person Florida scramble format.
Check-in will begin at 7:30 a.m. Golfers will tee-off with a shotgun start at 8:30 a.m. the day of the tournament.
Plaques will be awarded to the first, second and third place teams. Individual golfers receive plaques for the longest drive, as well as closest to the pin.
This year's participants are again in for a treat. Veteran “chef” David Peterson, Hays County's Precinct 1 constable, who coordinates San Marcos' annual Juneteenth Barbecue Cook-Off, will be providing sausage for lunch.
