Better to wait a bit longer

By Rowe Ray
Managing Editor

The San Marcos City Council’s Monday decision to table consideration of compensation for the council and mayor was well timed.

Despite the council’s desire to settle this matter and move on to other things, councilman Chris Jones was correct in his view that the body should wait until after today’s election and allow some political tensions to die down a bit.

Today’s voting will bring at least one new council member on board, and could bring a second.

The compensation issue has become a hot topic at City Hall, and the matter of expenditure review has added another layer of debate to recent meetings.

All the more reason to allow any new council members to be seated and brought up to speed on this item before a final vote is taken. RHR
