Chilly night, hot topics

By Rowe Ray

— Residents looking for a way to stay warm tonight as winter sends more rain and cold into San Marcos might consider spending a couple of hours at the San Marcos Activity Center.

Word has it there will be plenty of hot topics circulating there as proposed changes to the Land Development Code are discussed.

No, it doesn’t sound exciting. But when the topics under review are considered, there are few residents here who don’t have a personal stake in many and some strong opinions about others.

They include parking standards and tree preservation guidelines, planned development districts, design standards for residential areas, water quality standards and an IH-35 overlay district ordinance.

Hot-button items like these could fuel local coffee shop chatter for months.

Not an urban planner, housing developer, structural engineer, water technician or arborist?

No matter.

Tonight’s 6:30 p.m. land code public hearing is for the real VIPs of San Marcos ... it’s residents. RHR
