While news of progress in the remaking of the county’s Five Mile Dam park system is certainly good to hear, continuing water quality problems are a reminder that local parks owe much of their allure to the rivers which run through them.
The Blanco River has gotten a nice boost from recent rains, just as much of the San Marcos park system and the San Marcos River have been buoyed by several inches of fall precipitation.
Serious water supply challenges remain, however, for area aquifers and waterways.
Legislators, water system leaders and the general public must keep up their efforts to conserve and use water wisely.
