If there’s one thing that the Summer in the Park concert series offers, it’s variety. One week Zydeco, the next week Salsa.
Each Thursday from 7:30 to 9 p.m. throughout the summer, free concerts are held at San Marcos Plaza along the river. All one needs is a blanket, a few lawn chairs and a picnic dinner to take in everything from Swing music to San Marcos’ own Terri Hendrix to the swingin’ rockabilly of Two Tons of Steel.
Hendrix started her career hauling her P.A. all over the Hill Country, making routine stops at places like Cheatham Street Warehouse in San Marcos. She has since released nine self-released albums and performed all over the world, including the Newport Folk Festival, the Philadelphia Folk Festival and even the Texas State Fair.
She remains in the San Marcos area, where she owns an acre of land just outside town.
The Heart of Texas Chorus is a local 74-member group that ranks eighth among choruses internationally. HOT is currently rehearsing for the International Barbershop Convention taking place in Nashville this July. The group recently placed first in the district competition in Corpus Christi.

Here’s a look at the recently released schedule for this year’s shows:
• June 5 — Texas State University Swing Band
• June 12 — Wild Basin Winds (Woodwind Quintet)
• June 19 — Heart of Texas Chorus
• June 26 — Dimensions in Blue (Jazz Band from the Air Force Band of the West)
