Extension Office celebrating Christmas in July

— Thinking about Christmas in July? Probably not.
But Hays County Extension Agent Susan Schramm notes that it might not be that bad of an idea.
“When you think of Christmas it does make it a little cooler,” Schramm said. “And it’s never hurts to start early.”
Schramm and the Hays County Extension Office will host the 20th annual Christmas in July event in conjunction with Guadalupe County from 2 to 6 p.m. July 23 at the Extension Office. The Hays County Extension Education Club will host this year’s event, which features demonstration of simple and unique craft items.
No reservations are necessary, but a $5 donation will cover the expense of refreshments and printing instructions for each individual craft.
Schramm says that this year the group will be utilizing common household items — everything from a bowling ball to TV trays — and using them for gifts or decorating ideas. The idea is to save money making creative crafts with much less expensive supplies.
“With the slow economy, I feel like more and more people will be doing things like this for Christmas,” Schramm said.
Crafts range from beginner to advanced, and Schramm said participants are always welcome to ask questions or share ideas along the way. The Extension Office is located at 1253 Civic Center Loop in San Marcos. For more information call Schramm at 393-2120.
