Bluebonnet Lions donate to Camp Heartsong
The beautiful bluebonnet flower is to Texas what the shamrock is to Ireland, the cherry blossom to Japan and the tulip to Holland.
But in San Marcos, the bluebonnet is not only the Texas state flower, but its also the name of a group of ladies which has a heart for CTMC Hospice Care.
CTMC Hospice Care recently received a $900 donation from the Bluebonnet Lions Club of San Marcos, a member of Lions District 2-S3. This donation will be used to help fund the annual children’s camp, Camp HeartSong.
Camp HeartSong, a 3-day overnight camp, provides bereaved children a safe place to express grief in a safe and healing way, while enjoying fun filled camp activities like art and crafts, swimming, canoeing, fishing and hiking.
The San Marcos Bluebonnet Lion’s Club has been supporting local organizations since its inception, and this year after learning about CTMC Hospice Care’s invaluable work in the local community, chose to support Camp HeartSong.
CTMC Hospice Care Director, Linda Lopez and Bereavement Coordinator, Joe Flores, LMSW, were present to receive the donation.
“On behalf of CTMC Hospice Care staff and the bereaved children and their families that we serve, we are very grateful for this donation from the Bluebonnet Lion’s Club for their generous donation,“ Lopez said.
“Campers get the opportunity to know they are not alone in their grief. It is such a powerful thing for all of us, staff and volunteers, to be a part of these children’s lives. Simply, what we try do is offer them love and hope,” Joe Flores, LMSW, Bereavement Coordinator for CTMC Hospice Care, said.
