TLU to host art exhibit by Steve Brudniak

Seguin Texas Lutheran University will host an exhibit by American contemporary artist Steve Brudniak, Thursday Sept. 3 through Saturday Oct. 3 at the Annetta Kraushaar Gallery of the Schuech Fine Arts Center on the Seguin campus. Brudniak will be at TLU for the opening reception of his exhibit Sept. 3 from 3:30 p.m. to 7 p.m. The reception and exhibit are free and open to the public.

“Selections from Steve Brudniak: Noumenon and other Works” features the artist’s highly-crafted assemblages that are distinguished through the use of found objects – finished pieces that do not resemble collage, but rather machines, devices or ritual objects of some fictional surreal origin. His work conveys philosophical and spiritual examinations imbued with scientific elements including samples of the oldest life on earth, reflecting three-dimensional images and inorganic specimens in fluid and fiber optic projections.

Brudniak’s works have received many awards, have been exhibited around Texas and in 2008 his assemblage sculptures were the first in outer space and taken aboard the International Space Station.

In his early years, Brudniak spent time in Houston where he cultivated an interest in film, writing, acting and music. After a short stint in the graphic arts industry in 1981, he opened a recording studio and simultaneously began making his first assemblages. His work gained exposure in the mid 1980s and made its way into the Houston Museum of Fine Arts and both local and international publications.

Brudniak now lives in Austin where he stays involved with performance, music, film-making and acting, and where he has served as a curator and artist consultant for various projects.

TLU is an exclusively undergraduate university of the liberal arts, sciences and professional studies. The fine arts have been an integral part of the curriculum at Texas Lutheran University throughout its 119-year history.
